USS Gerald R. Ford Aircraft Carrier (CVN-78) is the lead ship of the U.S. Navy's newest class of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. Named after the 38th President of the United States, the ship was built by Newport News Shipbuilding and commissioned in July 2017. It represents the first major carrier design update in over 40 years. The Ford-class introduces advanced technologies, including the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS), Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG), and a redesigned island. These innovations increase sortie rates, reduce crew requirements, and improve efficiency. The ship also features improved radar, weapons elevators, and power systems for future upgrades. As the most advanced carrier in the world, USS Gerald R. Ford Aircraft Carrier (CVN-78) is central to the Navy's future force projection. It began its first full deployment in 2023, marking a new era in American naval aviation and global maritime operations.
