Constitution built to our highest specification and individually recorded — a serial number etched into the hull ties your model to its build date, its timber and the workshop that made it.

Hand-built work is never repeatable. Grain, hand-cut fittings and the tension in hand-knotted rigging make every hull slightly its own. The serial is what turns that from a shrug into provenance.

Construction

• Plank-on-frame hull in western red cedar, rosewood and mahogany
• Full frigate battery, cast cannon on both decks
• Three masts and bowsprit, complete hand-knotted rigging with ratlines
• Hand-stitched linen sails
• Carved stern, eagle and trailboards
• Ship's boats, capstan, wheel, anchors and rudder
• Solid wood base and engraved brass nameplate
• Serial number etched into the hull

The ship

One of the original six frigates of the United States Navy, launched at Boston in 1797 and designed by Joshua Humphreys to outgun anything fast enough to catch her and outrun anything strong enough to beat her. In the War of 1812 she took HMS Guerriere, Java, Cyane and Levant. She has been in commission for over two centuries and is the oldest commissioned warship afloat.
