The USS Constitution, also known as Old Ironsides, is the world's oldest commissioned warship still afloat and remains one of America's most treasured naval landmarks. Launched in 1797, this three-masted heavy frigate was constructed primarily of dense southern live oak, making its hull exceptionally strong. Measuring 204 feet in length with a hull thickness of 21 inches-greater than the 18-inch standard of the time-the ship was built to endure the fiercest naval battles. Even the copper bolts and fittings, forged by the patriot Paul Revere, contributed to its legendary durability. The USS Constitution ship first set sail in 1798, quickly earning a formidable reputation. Its most celebrated victories came during the War of 1812 against Britain. In these campaigns, the frigate captured numerous merchant vessels and defeated five British warships in direct combat. Among these triumphs, the clash with HMS Guerriere in August 1812 remains the most famous. During the battle, British cannonballs appeared to bounce harmlessly off the vessel's sturdy oak hull, leading astonished sailors to exclaim, "Her sides are made of iron!" This moment cemented the ship's enduring nickname: Old Ironsides. Beyond its wartime service, the USS Constitution model ship continues to symbolize American resilience and naval heritage. Today, the original vessel is preserved as a national historic landmark and is permanently docked at the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston, Massachusetts. Visitors from around the world come to admire the model of the USS Constitution in full scale, celebrating its remarkable history and craftsmanship. Owning a USS Constitution model allows collectors and history enthusiasts to bring home a piece of this maritime legacy. Whether displayed as décor or as part of a serious collection, it stands as a timeless tribute to America's naval pride and the legendary frigate that earned the name USS Constitution Old Ironside.
