Goto Predestination — Peter the Great's 1700 Warship Model, Painted | Admiral Line

The first ship of the line built in Russia, and the first designed by a Tsar.

Built plank on frame in hardwood and hand-painted, this model carries the heavy ornament and high stern of a turn-of-the-18th-century warship — Dutch in method, Russian in ambition.

Construction

History

Goto Predestinatsia — "God's Foreknowledge" — was launched at Voronezh in 1700, a 58-gun ship laid down to Peter the Great's own draught after he returned from studying shipbuilding in the Dutch and English yards. She was the first Russian-designed, Russian-built ship of the line, constructed without foreign supervision. Landlocked by the terms of a later treaty with the Ottomans, she was eventually sold to Turkey. A full-size replica has floated on the Voronezh reservoir since 2014.
