Building a set

Two white stars work on their own, and they also work as the neutral element in a larger group. Mixed with the blue stars, or with square star-print cushions, they stop an arrangement of strong colours from becoming heavy.

The general rule for cushions on a bed is odd numbers of shapes and even numbers of each type — two whites and one blue reads better than two and two, which looks like a matched pair someone interrupted.
