The car

The Country Squire was Ford's top station wagon, and by 1957 its wood was no longer wood — the framing was fibreglass and the panels were printed vinyl, applied to look like mahogany and ash. Nobody minded much. Real timber had to be revarnished every year and rotted if you didn't.

The wagon defined suburban American transport for three decades before the minivan replaced it, and the Country Squire name ran until 1991.
