A French first rate at full ceremonial finish — three gun decks, tiered stern galleries, and carved and gilded ornament running the length of the ship.
Built plank on frame in western red cedar, rosewood and mahogany, laid one plank at a time over a wooden frame. Hundreds of hours per hull. Fully assembled.

About the name
Ships named Bretagne ran through the French navy for two centuries, and the name was reserved for major units — the 1766 three-decker of 110 guns was funded by public subscription from the province of Brittany, a practice by which French regions paid for ships bearing their names. Vessels of this class were the heaviest and most decorated in the fleet, built to carry an admiral's flag.
