Why round

Round side tables solve two problems that square ones create. There are no corners to catch a hip in a tight walkway, which matters beside a sofa in a narrow room. And a circle has no orientation — it works at any angle to the furniture, so you can push it into an awkward gap without it looking wrong.

Height is the thing to check. A side table should sit level with the arm of the chair beside it, or an inch or two below. Too low and you reach down for a drink; too high and it dominates.
