The car

In 1907 Rolls-Royce entered a Silver Ghost in the Scottish Reliability Trial, then kept driving it — 14,371 miles non-stop between London and Glasgow, under observation, stopping only once involuntarily when a fuel tap shook shut. At the end, the cost of replacing every worn part came to just over two pounds. The motoring press did the rest.

The Silver Ghost stayed in production until 1926, an extraordinary run for the period, and established a reputation the company has traded on for a century.
