The car Enzo Ferrari reportedly called the most beautiful ever made — which, coming from him, settled the argument.

The car

Jaguar launched the E-Type at Geneva in March 1961 at around half the price of an equivalent Ferrari, claiming 150 mph. It caused something close to a riot.

The launch nearly went wrong. Jaguar had only one car in Geneva and needed a second for demonstration runs, so test driver Norman Dewis was phoned late at night in Coventry and told to drive one over immediately. He did it in about eleven hours, through the night, across France, arriving twenty minutes before the press call.
