The machine

Outriggers are the interesting part. A mobile crane on its wheels can lift almost nothing, because the tipping point sits inside the wheelbase and the suspension moves. Extend the outriggers and lift the machine clear of its own tyres, and the stable footprint roughly triples.

Every crane carries a load chart that tells the operator what can be lifted at what radius and boom angle. Exceeding it does not bend anything — it simply tips the entire machine over. A good desk piece for anyone in construction, plant hire or heavy lifting.
