The visor problem

Everything about a helmet is a negotiation between protection and the ability to see and breathe. Close the visor and you are safe from a lance point and nearly blind, with a field of view reduced to a slot and hearing muffled to almost nothing.

Which is why armour developed pivoting visors that could be raised the moment the immediate danger passed, and why the breathing holes were concentrated on the right side of many helms — the left side faced an opponent's lance in the tilt, so it was left solid.

Every design choice in a harness answers a specific way of being killed.
