The class
The Revenge class was built alongside the Queen Elizabeths but designed to a different brief — cheaper, slightly smaller, and originally intended to burn coal. They ended up oil-fired anyway, but stayed two knots slower and were never modernised as thoroughly as their half-sisters.
That gap mattered by 1939. The Queen Elizabeths were rebuilt into effective modern battleships; the Revenges were relegated to convoy escort and shore bombardment, too slow to operate with the fleet.
History
Fought at Jutland in 1916. Sunk at anchor in Scapa Flow by U-47 on 14 October 1939 with the loss of 835 men, over a hundred of them boy seamen. The wreck is a protected war grave.
