Juan Carlos I (Hull No. L-61) is a multi-purpose amphibious assault ship and aircraft carrier of the Spanish Navy. Named after the former King of Spanish, she was launched in 2008 and commissioned in 2010. Designed by Navantia, the ship reflects Spanish's effort to modernize its naval capabilities with a flexible and powerful platform. The vessel can operate as both a helicopter carrier and light aircraft carrier, capable of deploying AV-8B Harrier II jets and various helicopters. She also features a well deck for landing craft, a vehicle deck, and troop accommodations, making her ideal for amphibious operations, humanitarian missions, and power projection. With a ski-jump ramp and modern command systems, Juan Carlos I is the most advanced ship in the Spanish fleet. In addition to her national role, the design of Juan Carlos I has influenced other navies, including Australia's Canberra-class. She remains a key asset in Spanish's naval operations and global deployments.
