The largest topsail schooner in the world, and the ship every Spanish naval officer learns to sail on.
Built plank on frame in western red cedar, rosewood and mahogany. Her four masts and mixed rig make her one of the more demanding subjects in the catalogue — square sails forward, fore-and-aft aft, and every line of it hand-knotted.

History
Launched at Cádiz in 1927, Juan Sebastián de Elcano is named for the Basque navigator who took command of Magellan's expedition after Magellan was killed and brought the Victoria home in 1522 — completing the first circumnavigation of the earth with eighteen survivors. The ship has since made more than a dozen circumnavigations of her own and remains in active service with the Spanish Navy.
