Cutty Sark — 1869 Tea Clipper Model, No Sails (Bare Rigging) | Admiral Line

The same hull, without the canvas. With her sails struck, Cutty Sark's real architecture shows — the sheer of the deck, the rake of the masts, the geometry of the rigging that made her fast.

Some collectors prefer it this way. It reads cleaner in a modern room, takes less shelf depth, and puts the hull rather than the sails at the center of attention.

Construction

• Plank-on-frame hull in western red cedar, rosewood and mahogany
• Three masts with complete hand-knotted standing rigging
• Bare yards — no sails fitted
• Deck detail: wheel, deckhouses, boats, capstan, rail and fittings
• Metal anchors and wooden rudder
• Solid wood base and engraved brass nameplate
• Fully assembled

The ship

Built at Dumbarton in 1869 for the China tea race, Cutty Sark was overtaken by the Suez Canal within months of her launch and found her real career in the Australian wool trade, where she was genuinely the fastest thing afloat. She is preserved at Greenwich — the only surviving tea clipper.
