The car

Ford's achievement was not the car but the price. When the Model T launched in 1908 it cost $850. By the mid-1920s it cost under $300, and a Ford assembly worker could buy one on about four months' wages — which was the entire point of paying them five dollars a day.

The famous line about any colour so long as it's black was true only for part of the run. Early cars came in green, red, blue and grey. Black arrived because it was the only enamel that dried fast enough for the moving line.
