The machine
Massey Harris was Canadian, and in 1953 it merged with Harry Ferguson's British company — an awkward marriage of two strong-willed operations that spent several years selling competing tractors through competing dealer networks under one roof.
The 333 came from that period. Ferguson's contribution was the three-point hitch, which let an implement be raised, lowered and controlled from the tractor and transferred the implement's load onto the driving wheels. It is still the standard fitting on tractors worldwide, and Ferguson gave it away by licence rather than restricting it.
