India's INS Kalvari Submarine (S21) is the lead submarine of the Kalvari-class diesel-electric attack submarines built for the Indian Navy. Based on the French Scorpène design by Naval Group, India's INS Kalvari Submarine (S21) was constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai under India's "Make in India" initiative. The project aimed to enhance India's underwater warfare capabilities with modern, stealthy submarines. Kalvari was launched in 2015 and commissioned into service on 14 December 2017.
