India INS Vikrant (IAC-1) is India's first indigenously built aircraft carrier and a major milestone in the country's naval history. Named after India's first aircraft carrier, she was designed by the Indian Navy's Directorate of Naval Design and built by Cochin Shipyard Limited. Construction began in 2009, and she was commissioned into service in September 2022. The carrier displaces around 45,000 tons and features a ski-jump flight deck for launching MiG-29K fighter jets and various helicopters. Powered by gas turbines, India INS Vikrant (IAC-1) has a top speed of over 28 knots and is equipped with modern sensors, weapons, and a state-of-the-art combat management system. Her design emphasizes flexibility, self-reliance, and operational reach in the Indian Ocean. India INS Vikrant (IAC-1) strengthens India's blue-water capabilities and maritime security. As the second aircraft carrier in service alongside INS Vikramaditya, she reflects India's growing defense industry and its strategic aim to project power and protect regional interests.
