Plank on frame in western red cedar, rosewood and mahogany, laid one plank at a time over a wooden frame. Fully assembled.

Why Dutch ships look different
Every Dutch port of the 17th century sat behind shoals. A ship that drew too much water could not get home, so Dutch builders made their hulls broad and flat-floored rather than deep — which cost some sailing performance and bought the ability to operate off their own coast where English deep-draught ships could not follow. In three Anglo-Dutch wars that trade-off repeatedly decided where battles could be fought at all.
