A White Star Line steamer of the late 19th century — the generation of ships that turned ocean crossing from an ordeal into a schedule.
Built plank on frame in hardwood at 80 cm, with the long iron-era hull, single funnel and auxiliary masts of a transitional steamer: engines for reliability, sails for economy and for the days the engines failed.

History
White Star built its reputation on comfort rather than raw speed — moving passenger cabins amidships where the motion was least, widening the hulls, and treating the crossing as an experience to be sold rather than endured. Gaelic served the Pacific route between Hong Kong, Yokohama and San Francisco, carrying passengers, mail and cargo across the largest ocean on earth on a published timetable. The same company would later build Olympic, Titanic and Britannic.
