HMS Victory — Nelson's Flagship Model, Painted Large | Admiral Line

A larger painted Victory, where the extra scale buys detail you can actually read from across a room: individual gun-port lids, separate ratlines, the carving on the stern resolved rather than suggested.

Construction

• Plank-on-frame hull, hand-painted in Royal Navy black and yellow
• Three gun decks, over a hundred cast cannon
• Three masts and bowsprit with full hand-knotted standing and running rigging
• Hand-stitched linen sails on every yard
• Carved and gilded stern gallery, quarter galleries and figurehead
• Ship's boats on their skids, capstan, wheel, gratings and rails
• Metal anchors and wooden rudder
• Solid wood base and engraved brass nameplate

Hundreds of hours go into a hull this size. Every one passes a full inspection before it leaves the workshop.

The ship

Victory was ordered in 1758, launched in 1765 and had already been at sea for forty years when Nelson hoisted his flag in her. At Trafalgar she carried 104 guns and roughly 820 men, broke the enemy line astern of the Bucentaure, and took heavy fire from the Redoutable alongside — which is where the shot that killed Nelson came from.
