Why this ship
A Whitby coal carrier turned exploration vessel, Endeavour took James Cook to Tahiti in 1769, then south and west to chart New Zealand and reach eastern Australia. She was picked for toughness over beauty — and it was toughness that got her off the Great Barrier Reef in 1770.
