History
Peter the Great spent 1697 working incognito in the shipyards of Amsterdam and Deptford, learning the trade with his own hands — an unusual use of a monarch's time. He came home and drew a warship. Goto Predestinatsia, "God's Foreknowledge," was launched at Voronezh in 1700: 58 guns, and the first ship of the line designed and built in Russia without foreign supervision. A treaty with the Ottomans later closed her route to open water, and she was sold to Turkey. A full-size replica has floated at Voronezh since 2014.
